Bearspaw – Rocky View County

Bearspaw is a rural community in Rocky View County consisting mostly of country residential acreages; and is located just northwest of the Calgary and east of the Town of Cochrane, on Highway 1A.  The Canadian Pacific Railway Station was established at Bearspaw in June 1909 and was named after Chief Masgwaahsid, or Bear’s Paw, who signed the treaty at Blackfoot Crossing, September 22, 1877.

Bearspaw is located within Rocky View School District and is zoned for Bearspaw School (K-8) and Cochrane School (9-12). Bearspaw School opened in 2002 in a rural setting for children from the Bearspaw area from ECS to Grade 8. Children who live in the surrounding areas are bussed to the school. High school age children travel by bus to Cochrane.

Bearspaw is popular with golfers, as there are several courses nearby, including Bearspaw Golf & Country Club, Springbank Links, Lynx Ridge, Links of Gleneagles and Cochrane Golf Club.

Church Ranches – Rocky View County

Church Ranches is a beautiful and well cared for area of Bearspaw with great access to Highway 1A. and is one of the premier sub-divisions in Rural Rocky View County. It is zoned "Country Residential" for single family homes, which are all no less than 2.0 acre lots. There are 198 lots in Church Ranches developed in five phases, including three lakes which are for residents use; (Alexa Lake, Cody Lake & Cheyanne Lake). This prestigious development began in 1991, with the first construction in Phase 1 in May 1994. All properties are serviced to the property line with water, power, gas, cable TV and phone lines. There are some restrictions, fires are not permitted especially burning barrels, and dogs are not permitted on the beach areas.
